Permit Rules and Regulations
Thank you for purchasing a permit to fish our waters. We hope you enjoy your fishing in the area. Our rivers have Brown Trout and Grayling all wild fish.
SAFETY
The river can be very dangerous especially when in flood and rise very quickly. You are advised to wade only when you can see it is safe to do so.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND NOT CREATING A DANGER TO OTHERS. PLEASE ENSURE ALL CHILDREN ARE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES.
1. That no person be allowed to fish the Association’s waters until a valid licence has been obtained. Your Licence must be purchased BEFORE fishing commences.
2. The Association licence grants the right to fish ONE rod, although others may be carried partly made up.
3. Licence must be carried and available for inspection by the bailiffs, members of the committee, landowners or any other persons holding a licence.
4. We Prefer “catch and release.” However, if you wish to keep any fish, they must not be under 10” in length and a maximum of two fish in any one day. Grayling must be returned. The catch of the angler must be available for inspection by the same person as above.
5. That no person using Association’s waters shall be accompanied by a dog.
6. That any person breaking any rules of the Association shall be excluded from the benefits of the same for such a period as the committee may decide.
7. As per Bye Laws of England. If any pike are caught they MUST be killed irrespective of the season. However only 1 pike per day can be killed, also they must not exceed 65cm in length. Pike over 65cm must be returned.
8. Maggot fishing is not allowed before 15th June.
9. Only persons (or their children) on the electoral roll for Hawes and High Abbotside may purchase local licences. Other persons, which may include casual workers and / or owners of holiday properties must pay at the rates for visitors.
10. That all legal methods of fishing are permitted EXCEPT:
(i) No ground baiting of any kind
(ii) No use of fish or roe or medicated baits.
11. Close seasons are:
Trout – 1st October to 24th March.
Grayling – 15th March to 15th June. (as E.A – Yorkshire Region rules).
12. Do Not Block and field access or any gates.
13. Must respect farming seasons / land – (i) Do Not Litter (ii) Do Not Trample on Grass (iii) Do Not Scare Livestock.
14. All anglers MUST fish in a proper manner in compliance with the Association and the Environmental Agency.
REMINDER
We have had trophies for many years for the heaviest fish caught. This is open to locals and visitors. If you wish to weigh your fish please photograph the fish with your licence number. This will be entered into the competition. In line with our drive to keep our wild trout stock we would ask the fish are returned as soon as possible.
NOTE: please do not get the fish weighed at the Spar Shop.
